Dearest Journeyverse friends & family,
It feels so good to be back with you!
As you’ve probably noticed… I’m trying my best to be more consistent. But you know how that whole “work-life balance” thing goes.
I am starting to think somebody with no life made that up. I just don’t know if this whole “work” life balance exists. It’s starting to seem like a cute term people use to trap people into the grind of a 9-5.
Is it just a cute little phrase designed to keep us chained to the 9-5 hamster wheel?
Or maybe—I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt—I just haven’t found the right formula for the work-life balance equation?
Where do people get all this energy from after work?
Because the only thing I want to see is my house… followed immediately by a slow dance with my bed!
Hearing the words “What are you doing after work?” or “Do you have plans after work?” Sounds more like fighting words these days.
And look, it’s not like I’m a housewife or a single mom juggling multiple lives. I’m just taking care of me right now and even that comes with a full plate when you’re living the Journey!
I live for the weekend like a single mom lives for a kid-free weekend.
When Friday hits, please queue “Friday” by Plies. Sure enough, the moment you hear the lyrics “Live every got damn day like it’s Friday!” just know my spirit has been summoned.
Like Candyman, I shall appear!
That song? It’s a whole mood and plays a significant role in my life. But I’ll save that story for another time. Today’s post is for all my blue-collar warriors and working entrepreneurs (like myself).
I see y’all and I support the grind!
That includes my single ladies who come home to an empty apartment with zero regrets because Tyrone definitely does not live there…and honestly, why would he?
Once we (hopefully) figure out this whole work-life balance situation, maybe we can tackle other mysteries of the universe… like how Tylenol might be linked to autism (yes, I’ve been seeing headlines—stick with me here, I’m still researching 👀).
Because something’s up, America! Either we’re on to something… or on our way to hell in a handbasket.
My New Quest: Figuring Out Work-Life Balance (For Real This Time)
I may have to succumb to a social experiment just to see if it is humanly possible.
I am an only child who became a introvert at best…learning to present more as an ambivert.
A wise statement I heard in these most recent times is: I have to manage my own time, so you have to manage yours.
That quote hit me hard.
Since then, I’ve been slowly piecing together the puzzle of my daily routine, trying to reorganize my life in a way that feels efficient, valuable, and sustainable.
Because listen…
We do have the same 24 hours as Beyoncé, and I want to make sure every one of mine is accounted for.
People have been coming for my time lately like it’s on clearance, and it’s made me pause and ask: How do I really want to spend my time?
Ideally, networking and expanding The Journeyverse we know and love of course!
Because I’m a one-woman machine right now: building a brand, collaborating, working full-time, and then some.
Work life balance has got to go into the prevention of burn out because it begins to feel like there is not enough hours in the day.
Burnout is real.
There are simply not enough hours in the day!
Let’s do the math:
- 4–8+ hours for work
- 6–8 hours for beauty sleep
- 4+ hours for you time (which usually disappears into errands, appointments, family obligations, or… let’s be real… TikTok scrolls)
My calculations might be off (I was an English major who artfully dodged math classes), but as long as I can calculate my coins by the hour, day, week, month, and year…I’m good.
So yeah, let’s not talk about quadratic equations. Haven’t seen one since high school, and that’s just fine with me.
But just so you know: I got my diploma, I’ve earned my degree, and I’m currently working on… potentially completing another one?
What do the kids say?
Clock that tea!
Also: Clock that work-life balance, because if you’re anything like me, we’re all just trying to figure out how to be the best versions of ourselves without collapsing from exhaustion.
Life is just trial and error, baby!
Anywho…don’t mind me. We are another day closer to Friday!
Hey Siri, play “She Works Hard for the Money” by Donna Summer.
P.S.: If you’re out there reading this—share your thoughts! Have you figured out the magical formula for work-life balance? Inquiring minds would love to know. And yes… I’m definitely asking for a friend. 🙂
With Love Forever & Always,
Journey <3
